This ECCO Map comes from a Spanish lesson on the issue of poverty in Latin America. The students began with specific vocabulary related to poverty—that they originated themselves. Once they connected ideas, they were well-prepared to provide strong claims in step 3, as well as develop an overall Organizing Principle to help them write the essay. Students can tell that their writing will work before they begin.
